I find my other interests influence my art. Gardening and love of the bush is one which shows in my paintings. Native flora features a lot. Music is another, and you’ll sometimes see some music notes peeking through behind a gumnut!
I use mainly acrylic these days, but occasionally get back to watercolour, which I have found excellent for portraits of my grandchildren.
My Story
I started painting in watercolour in 2004 while travelling, local landscapes etc, while John was fishing! I really enjoyed this so I enrolled in adult education classes on our return home. First prize at the local show inspired and encouraged me to keep it up.
I have more recently moved to acrylics and the bigger canvas, appreciating the versatility and fun of this medium.
My learning has been through workshops, the most recent being a process of layering and "conceal and reveal”, which opened up a fun and contemporary style, subject unknown until it jumps out from the canvas and it is revealed!
In early 2023, myself and three other artists from Yamba and Grafton, joined together to create an exhibition in Yamba, which proved very successful and was a great learning curve for me.
